The design team at Optimal Design has developed the JUMP Virtual Reality HMD for JUMP By Limitless Flights, a virtual reality headset designed with reduced weight and improved comfort and packed with technologies to bring the experience alive in the future.

Imagine being able to perform one of the most dangerous and technically challenging stunts in the world with little or no training, no skydiving experience, no equipment and setup costs, and no risk of death trying to pull it off. .

What would you do (and how much would it cost) for such an experience?

JUMP uses the latest cutting-edge technologies to deliver an incredible, unique and immersive hyper-reality experience that is both adrenaline-charged and thrilling.

For its avant-garde design, JUMP Virtual Reality HMD was recently awarded a Good Design Award 2022 by the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and the European Center for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.

Head-worn gear presents a special set of challenges that are not part of the design considerations for other garments.

Size, weight distribution, balance and fit are of paramount importance to the end user.

The variability of the human head in terms of shape, nose, forehead and cheekbone profiles requires great adjustability for a perfect fit.

The JUMP helmet also had to accommodate a massive amount of technology in a way that preserves helmet shape, ergonomics and is also highly manufacturable.

Additionally, the demanding nature of location-based experiments open 16 hours a day, seven days a week, in an environment that requires hygienic cleanability and quick donning of equipment presented additional challenges.

Having prior experience integrating technology into AR/VR headsets, the Optimal Design team was up to the task.

The Optimal Design team developed a headset with head tracking, VR displays, custom audio and eye/gaze tracking as well as biometrics, all loaded into an incredibly compelling design.

The helmet still retains the look of a typical wingsuit design, but is packed with technology to bring the experience to life in the future.

Innovations in the implementation of the technology included a new mechanism that allows easy adjustment of interpupillary distance (IPD), lens focus, volume adjustments and a unique screen construction facial to deliver a stunning appearance.

Additionally, designers have come up with new methods of designing helmets to reduce weight and improve comfort.

The architecture of the helmet has also been built in an innovative construction that allows for future capabilities.
